102 E X P L O R E Hit the Coastal Trails Network, a 30-mile public system of bicycle and pedestrian trails connecting Amesbury, Newbury, Newburyport, and Salisbury. It winds through lots of great neighborhoods on trails like the Clipper City Rail Trail, which runs through downtown Newburyport, and the woodsy Salisbury Point Ghost Trail, which runs parallel to route 110, starting at Lion's Park before connecting to the Old Eastern Marsh Trail. ASK ROBERT BENTLEY, OWNER AND CEO OF BENTLEY 'S REAL ESTATE, to describe an up-and-coming neighborhood on the North Shore and he'll point to his own: Newburyport's South End. Located between downtown and Plum Island, the South End offers the best of all worlds: a short bike ride to the beach, a quick walk into downtown, and one of the best values on the North Shore. "People are discovering Newburyport is not only a great value but also a great lifestyle," he says. "at's why it's selling like hotcakes." Further afield in Newburyport, folks should keep their eye on two spots that are coming soon. One is a brand-new development of town- NEWBURYPORT'S SOUTH END AND MORE G E T I T W H I L E I T ' S H OT homes (Bentley's Real Estate represents the sale) on a new street called Hines Way that will eventually consist of 27 units that are perfect for downsizers. In addition, Hines Way will connect to the Clipper City Rail Trail, phase two of which is nearly complete. e Rail Trail will also connect to the in-development Smart Growth District around Newburyport's commuter rail station, which will even- tually include new rental properties, allowing residents easy access to both the train and the city's downtown and waterfront. "It creates that younger, vibrant area that allows for [more] people to be in Newburyport," Bentley says. Newburyport's South End is steps away from bustling down- town and the water.
