Business challenges and objectives Western Union Business Solutions enables businesses to send and receive international business payments and manage foreign exchange. The market changes rapidly, meaning that tracking staff training is exceedingly important to help them excel. In 2008, the Human Resource and Learning and Development teams used a variety of learning and performance management tools including a paper-based performance review system. As the business grew, it became difficult to ensure that all employees were trained efficiently and convert induction programs into high levels of productivity. Furthermore, the business needed a learning management tool which could ensure that all employees – including remote sales teams – had the right training at the right time. "Our previous LMS was a good product, but simply couldn't keep pace with our expansion," said Michelle Mack, Global Training Manager, Western Union Business Solutions. "We needed a system which could provide us with a 'single source of truth' about performance and training status across the company. However, there was also a hunger to drive a competency-focused, training-led approach to development, embedding informal and social learning within the organisation, to help grow and retain the workforce." Why Cornerstone Western Union Business Solutions reviewed a number of learning and performance systems and selected Cornerstone Learning and Performance products. In 2009, the team also began using Cornerstone's social engagement and collaboration platform, Connect. Western Union Business Solutions consolidates and accelerates learning and development with Cornerstone.
