The main conference high‑ lights for the Irish include: • The ACC opener will be at Virginia Tech Jan. 1, traditionally a football day. The game will be telecast on ESPNU. • A Saturday/Monday turn‑ around against Virginia and Duke Jan. 26 and Jan. 28, respectively. Both games will be played at home on national television. • Boston College and Georgia Tech remain as traditional home‑and‑ home opponents, while Virginia and Virginia Tech will serve as the two additional home‑and‑home foes. • A trip to Chapel Hill to chal‑ lenge the North Carolina Tar Heels is also part of the road docket, along with Louisville. Beyond the ACC schedule, Notre Dame will face Illinois, Oklahoma, UCLA and Purdue during its non‑ conference slate in a four‑game stretch. The Illini will be the lone home game and are part of the ACC‑Big Ten Challenge. A trip to Madison Square Garden to take on Oklahoma in the Jimmy V Classic follows. UCLA will mark the third contest of the mar‑ quee stretch at Pauley Pavilion. Notre Dame wraps it up with the annual Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis against the Purdue Boilermakers. For a team welcoming six new‑ comers to the rotation, both the non‑ conference and ACC schedules will provide a significant test to head coach Mike Brey's 19th Fighting Irish squad. 2018-19 NOTRE DAME MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent (TV) Time (ET) Nov. 1 Central State! He was ruled out for the Sept. 15 Vanderbilt game. Basically a co-starter with senior Alizé Mack in the multiple tight end alignments often deployed by Notre Dame, Kmet took 38 snaps against Michigan in the season opener Sept. 1 while Mack had 42. Fifth-year senior Nic Weishar had 19 snaps in the same game, while sophomore Brock Wright — the top-rated Irish recruit by Rivals in Notre Dame's 2017 class — had two. Versus Ball State, Kmet took 23 snaps prior to his injury. During the week of preparation for Vanderbilt, sophomore re- serve rover Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah suffered a broken foot that will sideline him the remainder of the year. He had only seen action on special teams and didn't record any statistics. NIC WEISHAR NAMED TO 2019 ALLSTATE AFCA GOOD WORKS TEAM On Sept. 13, Notre Dame fifth-year senior tight end Nic Weishar was one of 22 college football players named to the 2018 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team roster for "extraordinary commit- ment to making a lasting impact off the field." One team has 11 players representing the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, and the other team has 11 student-athletes from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, NCAA Divisions II and III, plus the NAIA. Weishar and his family began The Andrew Weishar Foundation honoring the memory of his older brother who died in October 2012 from cancer. The foundation provides immedi- ate resources and financial assistance to fami- lies with adolescents or young adults stricken with cancer. It was inspired by Andrew asking younger brothers Dan and Nic to "pay forward" the acts of kindness and generosity he received. To date, The Andrew Weishar Foundation has aided 150 families burdened by cancer, granting out more than $800,000 in financial assistance. A May 2018 graduate who earned a degree in finance from the top-ranked Mendoza Col- lege of Business, and now working on his mas- ter of science in finances, Weishar also nearly led the football team in community service hours during the 2017-18 academic year. In 39 games for the Irish he has had three starts and caught 15 passes, two for touchdowns. He was among the 169 nominations submit- ted this summer by sports information direc- tors at their respective schools. A voting panel that includes two-time national champion and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, selected the teams. Since 1999, Weishar is the eighth Notre Dame representative selected to the Good Works team. His predecessors were Grant Irons (1999), Courtney Watson (2003), Derek Curry (2004), Bob Morton (2006), Tom Zbikowski (2007), Dayne Crist (2011) and Mike Golic Jr. (2012). A high ankle sprain suffered against Ball State has temporarily sidelined sophomore tight end Cole Kmet.
