Editor's Note: Checking in on 2013 It’s the first issue of the year and so far, we have had travel news that may indicate a more cautious approach taken by key industry players, for the year ahead. In particular, changes in the aviation scene may take on a different swerve. Earlier in the month, pilots from Singapore Airlines, considered as a bellwether for full-serviced carriers, were offered to go on voluntary unpaid leave, to assist the carrier in its cost-cutting measures. Malaysia Airlines’ restructuring has diversified with their decision to join oneworld, starting February 1, 2013. But an extension on the aviation scene also took to the accommodation and hotel offshoots such as the newly launched Sama-Sama brand. MAHB is looking to create a more dynamic business opportunity for better positioning and to amp up its five-star experience to travellers arriving and transiting in Kuala Lumpur. It seems that a few re-adjustments will take place and time to settle. This year, we’ll see a more robust market dynamics, with emerging travel destinations covering the likes of Philippines and the Mekong Sub-region like Laos and Myanmar taking a bigger portion of the runway. SpotLight: Cultural pursuits Udaipur is the epitome of India’s royal elegance, rich with centuries-old palaces and sites that depict the cultures and lifestyle of this vibrant city. Local attractions such as the Fateh Prakash Palace and Bagore Ki Haveli are also within close proximity, to complete a traveller’s pursuit for cultural experience.
