If you're looking for an artist who talks some sense or if you want to show a hip hop album to your kids that imparts serious knowledge, show them Black Thought. Black Thought has been big in the game for years with a level of quality throughout his work is second to none. His freestyle for Hot 97 was 10 minutes of fire, a showcase on how to drop a freestyle with creative bars, word play and delivery that was enough to make anyone sit back in awe. If you don't know him yet, just go watch that right now. The lead MC and one of the co-founders of the Philadelphia-based hip hop group, The Roots, he is most likely your rapper's favourite rapper. Freedom: a need for release, liberation and independence – this was the underlying desire for the soulful sound of 6LACK (pronounced black). GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: SPARK MASTER TAPE The Atlanta-based songwriter's exposure to music began in his father's recording studio at the age of 4 and moved on to the rap battle scene of his middle school where he was often reining champion. Between then and the release of his debut single 'PRBLMS', 6LACK spent 5 years not knowing 'where he was going to eat or not knowing where he was going to sleep' but values those hardships for defining him and his artistry. Now he prides himself on creative freedom and uses this to share his experiences from love, life and the music business. He does this through his bold, honest and frank lyrics, which are beautifully woven into his trap style and mood-inducing music. Stuck between old school 90's rap and trap rhythm, with a mixture of sci-fi sounds & old samples. Spark Master Tape is a voyager from another temporality. All of his beats are produced by Paper Platoon, which is also the name of his unique collective that includes visual artists and musicians. Maybe from the United Kingdom, maybe from behind the moon, he's definitely a special creature. So far the artist has created two projects during 2013 and 2014. After two years, Spark posted a tweet on January 25, 2016 saying: #SWOUP More at Guestlist.net NEWS: 6LACK HIP HOP LEGEND: BLACK THOUGHT 36 ISSUE 111 / 2018 HIP HOP & RNB
