NOVEMBER 2018 ■ 101 butterfly, in the latter he boasts the second- fastest time ever at NC State, just 0.05 sec- onds behind Held's record. "This summer was a real big summer for him in the long-course pools because he had to do a lot of swimming because his underwater kick is his biggest strength," Holloway said. "He learned a lot this sum- mer in his meets. "I think that's going to really help carry over to the college season." Also returning are a couple key seniors in Justin Ress and Jacob Molacek. Ress is yet another versatile performer whose name is littered all over the school record books. He has all-time top-10 marks at NC State in the 50 freestyle (third), 100 freestyle (third), 200 freestyle (fifth), 200 butterfly (seventh), 100 backstroke (sixth), 200 backstroke (third) and 200 individual medley (third). Over the summer, Ress qualified for the U.S. national team in the 100-meter back- stroke and finished second in the B-finals at the Pan Pacific Championships in August at Tokyo, site of the 2020 Summer Olympics. "I think for him going into his senior year his goal is to have a national title under his belt," Holloway said. "He's pretty moti- vated to have that done. He's another one that's versatile. "We are going to move him around a lit- tle bit more this year compared to last year and help keep him fresh, keep him having fun. We're excited to see him expand a little bit in some of those areas." Molacek is a strong performer in the 50 and 100 freestyle, owning the seventh- and fourth-fastest times in school history, re- spectively, in the races, and possesses the second-fastest 100 breaststroke in NC State annals. Both Ress and Molacek swam on NC State's national title-winning 400 and 800 freestyle relays, and they were joined by Stewart in the 400 and Vazaios in the 800. The key for the Wolfpack will be re- placing some of the points lost by Held and Ipsen's graduations. "Ryan was our hammer," Holloway noted. "He was just extremely consistent. I think Justin Ress is going to carry a bunch of that load this year especially with regards Your Wolfpack Connection For Legal Services In Southeastern North Carolina THE MCGOUGAN LAW FIRM 130 Jefferson Street, Whiteville, NC 28472 T.
