Noting The Pack • When a golf coach talks about a player's hands being gifted, you tend to start to hang on every world. Junior Benjamin Shipp falls into the category of having great hands around the green. Shipp shot a sub-70 round seven different times last year, including a season-low 64 on the second of three days at the NCAA Regional. "His hands are really gifted — touch shots, chip shots, pitch shots, bunker shots, lob shots, putts, distance putts — all those sorts of things," head coach Press McPhaul said. "He has great hands and really use those hands to hit the ball the way it exactly needs to be." • Senior Stephen Franken brings a powerful driver off the tee, but he gets his edge by being sound in his technique. He can create the same shot consistently, and then when he's on the green, he takes care of business. McPhaul describes golfers like that having a "nose for the hole." "His golf swing is very fundamental," McPhaul said. "It is one that teachers would try to emulate and use as a model. His golf swing is really good in that regard."
