TECHNOLOGY 17 6 www.guestlist.net Issue 47 / 2013 GET YOUR GAME ON! It's a brand new year with brand new opportunities! So why play the same old games? Those 2012 games are so...last year! This year is looking to be an awesome one in the gaming community so let's take a look at a few games set to come to our consoles this month. I hope your wallets are ready for this... ANARCHY REIGNS Think of Super Smash Bros, take away the cartoon-y nature, add a massive wad of epic badassness and you have a vague idea of what Anarchy Reigns is meant to look like. Sega has made a VERY wise move with this game! A whole load of badasses packed into one game, duking it out in true arena style...ah, how lovely! Sweet graphics, NEW TECH! UBUNTU Need a new operating system? Windows 7 and 8 will cost you anywhere from £50 to over £100 pounds. How about the open source operating system Ubuntu, it's completely for free! nice gameplay, tight combos, memorable characters, a multiplayer mode to die for and, what every gamer wants: a challenge. What more does one want? Go get Anarchy Reigns and I'm SURE you'll enjoy yourself if pummeling hordes of opponents to dust is what tickles your fancy. It has been designed to be as user friendly as possible. Sure, Windows is fast and customizable, but Ubuntu has great compatibility with music, videos and a bundle of free open source software such as Open Office for all your word documenting needs. What's more, Ubunutu is quick, clean and easy to install - even for beginners! However aesthetics are important too and Ubuntu looks beautiful. You can even customize it's appearance with ease thanks to it's flexibility. One of the key features of Ubuntu and it's ease of use is the thriving user community that is more than happy to help anyone experiencing problems or having trouble getting a certain program to run correctly. The software itself is also constantly being updated, re-worked and re-vamped thanks to the advice and opinions of you, the users. It's an operating system designed for the people, by the people. However if you're feeling generous, or maybe you've experienced the excellence of Ubuntu first-hand and want to give something back to the developers, you might want to make a small donation which can be done easily on the Ubuntu website. You can also specify what areas you think need improving on Ubuntu, so choose wisely! Interested? Check out the Ubuntu website and get downloading at - http://www. ubuntu.com/ NINJA GAIDEN 3: RAZOR'S EDGE Among the gaming community Ninja Gaiden is known as one of the bloodiest, most difficult, most kickass Hack 'n' Slash ninja game to ever have existed. It's revered as one of the toughest games out there. Ninja Gaiden 3, which was released on the Xbox and PS3 in March 2012, was a bit of a disappointment since it was too easy and toned down on the violence a tad. But that's all been "fixed" in this and has been slapped onto the brand new Wii U. So if you're looking for a challenging game with more ninja awesomeness than you know what to do with, grab a copy of Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge (and probably a Wii U. And while you're at it, could you get me a copy of each as well?) ROMS: DON'T DO IT! DMC: DEVIL MAY CRY The Devil Hunter Dante is back with a brand new adrenaline-filled, combo-stringing, ear-ringing, gun-toting, demon-smoking, trail-blazing, eyebrow-raising, smack-yomama-in-the-jaw-attitude game to add to the already RIDICULOUSLY sweet Devil May Cry series. Capcom passed the torch on to British-based game developers Ninja Theory to bring along the 5th addition to the family and, judging from the demo and gameplay videos, they have yet to disappoint. Sure, Dante's typical look has changed (and a LOT of fans aren't happy with it), but the brand new combo system that allows you to slice wave upon wave of demons into a million pieces in style has a crowd of us salivating by the gallon. If you want to ease yourself into the Action/Adventure genre, I recommend using the Devil May Cry series to do it. Grab DmC: Devil May Cry as quick as you can before it flies off the shelves! You may be one of the many people who like to enjoy the nostalgic feeling of playing all the old games you played as a child, on emulators which can be utilized by using ROM files downloaded on the internet. Well did you know it's not actually strictly legal? Yes, Ninentdo really don't want you playing Super Mario World on your PC, or Mario Kart for that matter. Strangely enough, it's actually fine to own the emulator software, but downloading the ROMs are very illegal. There is also confusion on the matter of obtaining the original copy of the game and then downloading a ROM. Many people believe that it is within their rights to obtain multiple copies of the game once they own a hard copy. However this is not strictly true, making a lot of gamers who want to play their old childhood games very confused. The amount of ROM websites on the web have greatly diminished over the year, however there are still a few operating by stating the false fact that it is legal to own a ROM if you own the game or if you delete the ROM within a 24 hour period. So why should you care? Because the act of playing games illegally costs the companies you love (Like Nintendo) millions every year.
