presentS recruiting news and notes Recruiting Roundup BY GOLD AND BLACK STAFF CLASS FILLING UP In what had to be one of the busiest recruiting weeks ever for Purdue, new coach Darrell Hazell filled the majority of his remaining scholarships in the span of just a matter of days. The Boilermakers have secured eight new verbal commitments since last weekend, most recently with defensive end and Boilermaker legacy Evan Panfil, a Chicagoland native who switched his commitment from Illinois on Monday. Prior, Purdue landed commitments from four of its six weekend official visitors, those being wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey, offensive lineman Jason Tretter, defensive tackle Johnny Daniels and linebacker Garrett Hudson. Hudson, the son of new Purdue defensive coordinator Greg Hudson, might be a greyshirt, meaning his scholarship would be deferred until mid-year. "They have to see how the numbers work out," said Garrett Running back remains a priority, with Louisville's Dalyn Dawkins and prep school back Keith Byars Jr. among anticipated weekend visitors. From a needs perspective, Purdue filled its void at tight end with the commitment of Burke, a Rivals.com three-star prospect. The receiver position was solidi- fied by the commitments of Monteroso and DeAngelo Yancey. Monteroso, a former Boston College commitment, chose Purdue over Maryland. Yancey, who was committed to Kentucky, chose the Boilermakers over Missouri. Tretter becomes the lone offensive lineman in the class to date, in what might be a one- Buy Subaru and keep Indiana driving. Rivals.com Rivals.com Defensive end Evan Panfil switched his commitment from Illinois to Purdue on Monday, giving the Boilermakers their eighth verbal commitment since last weekend. Wide receiver DeAngelo Yancey, who had been committed to Kentucky, picked Purdue over Missouri. He was one of four visitors this weekend who committed. Hudson, who was recruited to play middle linebacker. Previously, Purdue picked up commitments from Florida tight end Matt Burke and Ohio wide receiver Dan Monteroso, each of whom visited last weekend. With the run of commitments, Purdue now has roughly 19 pledges, though it is a bit of a moving target. Purdue is not expected to sign previously com- mitted cornerback TyVel Jemison, and defensive tackle Ra'Zahn Howard's status isn't certain, either, due to academic worries. But it would seem as if Purdue has a handful of remaining scholarships remaining. Cornerbacks Da'Wan Hunte and Shon Akins were the two official visitors from this past weekend that did not commit. Both remain possibilities.
