Engaged in a defensive battle — one way to put it, at least — with the Hawkeyes, the Boilermakers seemed to break it open in the second half, going up 11 with eight minutes left. Two minutes later, it was a three-point game, reminiscent of the Illinois and Nebraska games and how Purdue had to hang on to not completely lose big second-half leads. At the other end, Ronnie Johnson had 15 points and didn't commit a turnover against Iowa, as Johnson guarded Purdue had to go overtime to defeat the Hawkeyes. leading Iowa scorer Devyn Roy Marble as he dribbled toward a potential game-winner, but the Boilermaker guard's defense was sound and Marble's shot missed.
