30 JANUARY 2019 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED Williams noted. "Then Amari Rodg- ers and Hunter Renfrow are of the smaller variety and can do damage over the middle. They are very ver- satile on offense and can beat you in a number of different ways. "They have a ton of talent at re- ceiver, so they have gone to more 10 personnel [one running back, no tight end] than normal where they take the tight end off the field and put four receivers on the field." The Clemson offensive line has done their job this year, which has contributed to the Tigers being so balanced. They have allowed just 14 sacks this season in the team's first 13 games, which ranks eighth nationally. "You have an All-America type at left tackle in [senior] Mitch Hyatt," Williams said. "I think you have a future All-American at left guard in [junior] John Simpson. [Graduate] center Justin Falcinelli has really de- veloped a lot this year, not only as a leader, and has improved a lot from early in the season. "The right guard spot has been a little bit more of fluid situation there, but they seem more settled with [ju- nior] Gage Cervenka there. [Junior] right tackle Tremayne Anchrum has been solid." Defense will be the story between the Tigers and the Irish, and the ex- perience of the former could prove the difference if Notre Dame isn't given much of a chance to exploit any issues in the secondary. "When you get to this level, that defense travels," Williams said. "Having a defensive line like Clem- son has and the experience they have in these types of games is so valu- able. If you're going to beat Clemson, your quarterback is going to have to play really well. "I just feel in this game that [Ian] Book will have to play really well for Notre Dame to have a chance in the end." ✦ GAME PREVIEW: CLEMSON Highly touted freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence has lived up to the lofty expectations thus far this season, throwing for 2,606 yards with 24 touchdowns and only four interceptions.
