I look at it as a clean slate and a chance to reset and make new goals—both personal and professional. On the personal side, more exercise is in my future, and on the professional side, I am thrilled to continue to highlight the places and faces that make our region so special. For instance, our town focus is Andover this month. Last year when we set the editorial calendar, I never thought we would be highlighting the effects of the September Columbia Gas explosions that shook Andover, North Andover, and Lawrence. In a sense, this tragedy has meant new beginnings for many businesses in these areas. is overwhelming devastation that took a young man's life shows how these close-knit communities came together to support and help one another. I happen to live and work in Andover, and I have talked with many business owners to learn how they were coping with the loss of gas this past fall. Paul LaRosa of LaRosa's changed his menu to serve dishes such as salads and cold sandwiches—items that didn't need gas to make. Salon Invi owner Chris Kishfy went out and purchased electric water heaters so his team of stylists could continue to cut and color. Palmers Restaurant owner John Ingalls took the time while his restaurant was closed to revamp his menu. Cristina's stayed open even with no heat to serve her brides-to-be. I loved the story of Tuscan Kitchen roasting 50,000 pounds of turkey on anks- giving to deliver to families without gas. Andover's senior center also provided meals to the elderly in our town. Resilience and fortitude are words that come to mind for these communities. And I am grateful to share these stories with you. Another fresh-start focus in this issue is weddings! We bring you the results of the Best of the North Shore Wedding Awards! We highlight both editors' and readers' choices for the best cake, ring, gown, venue, and more! We'll also share great warm-weather spots to head for your honeymoon—or simply escape the cold! NEW BEGINNINGS Nancy E. Berry, Editor WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU Send comments to the editor: nberry@nshoremag.com The town of Andover has shown great resiliency this fall.
