76 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING "Coach Keatts was very excited," Smith added, recalling when he told the NCSU coaches. "I felt good that I was able to commit this early. My Family and friends were all excited for me and told me to keep working hard." Smith picked NC State over offers from East Carolina and High Point. The Wolf- pack were able to land him before he po- tentially "blew up" this spring while play- ing in showcase events with the CP3 16s traveling team. He said getting an offer from the Wolf- pack so early in his prep career made him become more serious about his future. "I know I have to work on my strength," Smith said. "I have gotten taller and stron- ger since last year." The Rivals.com three-star prospect was averaging 18.6 points, 5.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game as of Feb. 20. "First of all, he's a fit for how Keatts wants to play," Rivals.com national recruit- ing analyst Eric Bossi said. "He's a sleek athlete, he's got long arms he uses to get deflections and he's laterally quick. "There are some small kinks to work out of his jump shot, but he's a very willing shooter from deep who looks like he should be a respectable guy from deep by the time he lands in Raleigh." Smith's athleticism shines through, and Bossi thinks he could eventually challenge for four-star status. "In the open floor, he gets to the rim. While he'll need to continue to improve his off hand, he should be able to create his own offense off the dribble," Bossi said. The one-two punch of junior Justin Wright and Smith has high-flying Farm- ville Central off to a 24-0 start through the regular season under coach Larry Williford.
