FASHION 18 www.guestlist.net Issue 48 / 2013 FASHION WEEK DESIGNER OF Fashion lover? Get ready, because it all kicks off here. Beginning with New York early this month, continuing with London on February 15th, Milan on 20th, and finally Paris on the 26th! Here are four revolutionary designers to follow during spring and summer fashion weeks this 2013: Tadashi Shoji from Sendai in Japan is particularly known for his red carpet gowns and evening wear. His designs have won a loyal following with welldressed women worldwide, including a wide range of celebrities. Margaret Howell heads up our British corner, from Surrey her last collection was about the cool classicism of the white shirt, using cottons and linens for loose cut shirts and parkas, worn over narrow-legged trousers. The clothes have simple shapes with a strong silhouette which is why we're excited to see what she´ll offer in this year's show! Jean-Charles De Castelbajac, from Morocco, opened his show last year with the colours yellow, black, and white that reminds us of a palm tree and cityscape print. As well as his imaginative clothing collections JeanCharles creates home furnishings and has designed a watch inspired by our childhood favourite, Lego. With those being just a few of the designers set to show their new collection, look forward to new prints, fresh looks, and strong style on the runway that we plan to keep you up to date with. PROPER GNAR Firstly can you tell us a bit about how the company started off and what made you get into streetwear? The company started off with an old friend and I. We'd been friends in high school and after we graduated just kind of grew apart. Then a few years later we ended up getting jobs at the same boring factory making minimum wage. We got tired of it pretty fast and had dreams to do something better. We both drew, were both into fashion and skateboarding so I took my tax return a few months later and started Proper Gnar. We have just come across your garms and love them! What is the inspiration behind the brand? I mostly just make clothes that I want to wear and hope other people want to wear it too. I feel like the area I live in is just dead when it comes to clothing, or really anything cool in general. And 5 years behind the rest of the country, so I kind of set out to change that. You are based in Greenville, Ohio what other fashions brand are you into right now? I really like Joyrich, Petals and Peacocks, Dope Chef, Drop Dead, Rip n Dip. Brands that set trends instead of follow them. You're quite new in the game, how are you finding it all so far. There is a lot of love out there! It's fun, it's interesting seeing all the different brands out there and what they're doing. Getting into streetwear is a lot harder than it looks, the market right now is just so over saturated. I get to meet lots of cool people, and opportunities to do things I've never done before, so it's all good. What do you hope to achieve, what is your main goal? It'd be cool to own my own store, move away from here and just travel and create. Leave something behind for my daughter. To get people with the movement and to inspire others.
