INDIE / ROCK 40 www.guestlist.net ARTIST OF THE MONTH TAME IMPALA Issue 48 / 2013 PJ MORTON @ BORDERLINE This Australian psychedelic rock band is on top of their game. The British magazine NME has, once again, chosen the best artists of the year. At the top of this list are the Australians Tame Impala. Kevin Parker's band has continued to achieve success after thanks to Myspace, they caught the attention of Modular Records and in 2008 they signed their first record contract. With two albums on the market, the band has toured with big ones like Black Keys and MGMT. The debut album was Innerspeaker, released in 2010. Now with his latest one Lonerism, Tame Impala continues to command the attention of the fans, especially with songs like Elephant and videos like Mind Mischief. On June 25 they will be in London, in the Hammersmith Apollo. For those of you really interested in other concerts around the world, check the web page for tour dates and festivals. www.tameimpala.com The charismatic, Grammy award winning keyboard player from Maroon 5 returned to London with his electrifying band for a performance at The Borderline in Central London. People not incredibly familiar with PJ Morton's works should make it a priority to cast a watchful eye the next time he comes into town. Renowned for his soulful demeanour and passionate lyrics, this highly acclaimed musician prompted many individuals in the audience, including yours truly, into shock and awe when he demonstrated his love and passion for guitar music. He brought with him a three piece band, whose electrifying guitar solos, heavy drum patterns and earth-shattering bass lines were able to synchronise magnificently with his Motown-esque vocals. Slowing the spectacle down on occasion (most notably for an exquisite cover of Bob Marley's Is This Love?), he inadvertently forced an increasing amount of 'Twisting and Shouting' all the way to the show's climax, without any hint of fatigue. Since joining Maroon 5 in 2010, his lyrics have been deeply enhanced and his live shows have become increasingly captivating. Hopefully this until recently unknown figure will be able to grow still, finally achieving the worldwide praise he truly deserves.
