A WinStar favorite from the word go, Commissioner raced as a homebred and was a mere head away from winning the Belmont Stakes (G1). "I think he is going to surprise a lot of people," said Tugel. "Commissioner is a horse who kind of gets pigeon-holed. Everyone thinks about his Belmont, but this is a horse who broke his maiden as a 2-year-old at Saratoga. He had a lot of precocity, and he comes from a family that is very fast. I know that people really, really like his foals down in Ocala. He is one of the most talked about horses down there. "Commissioner puts a body on them like very few other stallions do. He is putting the bone on them and they are very classy. I think they are going to be a lot earlier hitting the track than what people are typecasting him as. He's always been at the head of his class throughout his life, and I think he's going to continue to do that." The early 2-year-old sales results show that Commissioner's reputation is only continuing to build. His highest priced yearling went for $220,000, and he had juveniles go for $450,000, $225,000, $145,000, and $115,000 during the OBS March sale.
