Gold and Blacks Womens Hoops Lineup
The
Starters
KK Houser 22
G 5-6 Jr.
Houser was outstanding
down the stretch vs. Minnesota, scoring all 14 of
her points in the second
half of the Boilermakers
win. More impressive,
however, might have
been her management,
as the point guard committed only two
turnovers against seven assists. She also
grabbed five rebounds. She was good late
in the IU loss, scoring seven in the closing
minutes, including the go-ahead bucket
with 12 seconds left.
The
Reserves
Hayden Hamby 10
G 5-7 Fr.
Some fans are clamoring for
Hamby, a former 4,000-point
scorer in high school, to get a
chance now. But the shooting
guard is still adjusting to the
college game, where a quicker release and better overall strength
is a must. She hasnt played in four straight
games, sitting ever since she passed up a
shot opportunity vs. Michigan.
Joslyn Massey 21
F 6-0 Fr.
Masseys likely to get in
these days only at the end
of blowouts to try to get her
some experience, but such
opportunities have been nonexistent for the Boilers during
the Big Ten season. She hasnt played in the
last nine outings.
Liza Clemons 23
F 6-2 So.
Clemons had totaled only
two minutes in Purdues
prior seven games, before
seeing five minutes of action at Minnesota. And they
were productive, too, as the
sophomore pulled in a couple of first-half
rebounds. Oddly, however, Clemons hasnt
scored in the Big Ten after putting up points
in 11 of the 13 non-conference games.
Camille Redmon 42
C 6-4 So.
Redmon could have potential
as a solid defensive post,
with her long arms and shotblocking ability, but shes not
yet ready to be an everyday
contributor. Shes been on the
bench for the last four games.
In the right matchups, like against Michigan
State and Illinois this week, she could get a
couple minutes off the bench.
Chantel Poston 43
SF 5-10 Sr. (5)
Postons not able to play the
kind of minutes shed like,
due to soreness in her surgically repaired knee, but shes
been able to give the Boilers
a dose of energy here and
there. She had a nifty layup
around a couple defenders at Minnesota,
scoring four points and grabbing three
rebounds in her 11 minutes.
Taylor Manuel 50
PF 6-2 Fr.
Manuel played only nine
minutes at Minnesota, as
Coach Sharon Versyp significantly shortened up her
bench. But it was a productive nine minutes, as Manuel
scored nine points to go
along with five rebounds. She led Purdue
with 16 points at Indiana.
Courtney Moses 15
G 5-7 Jr.
Moses broke out of her
slump in a big way vs.
Minnesota, scoring 23
points while hitting
more than half her 13
field goals. She also
nailed three threepointers, exceeding her
total from the previous four games. The 23
points were also only one fewer than her
last four games combined. Moses started
to show signs of a breakout vs. Indiana,
when she scored 10.
Dee Dee Williams
20
G 6-0 Jr.
IU designed its defense
to allow Williams open
looks, and it worked, as
the Hoosiers forced the
low-scoring guard into
attempting a seasonhigh 11 shots, the most
among Boilermakers in Thursdays loss.
Against Minnesota, she wasnt forced into
an uncomfortable role, and delivered by
having a solid game with two points and
four assists without a turnover. Also, she
helped slow guard Rachel Banham.
Sam Ostarello 32
F 6-2 Sr.
Playing through a painful shoulder injury,
Ostarello recorded her
10th double-double of
the season vs. Minnesota, with 10 points and
10 rebounds. Purdue
is now 12-2 when she
collects 10 or more boards in a game.
Against Indiana, Ostarello allowed the
injury to affect her too much, laboring
through the pain and scoring only two
with seven rebounds.
Drey Mingo 24
F 6-2 Sr. (6)
Mingo has found a
better stride of late,
hitting seven of her last
11 field goals to score
a combined 25 in the
games against Minnesota and Indiana. She
was extremely efficient
vs. Minnesota, with 14 points on only five
field goal attempts, with six boards, three
assists and two blocks. Shes playing a
bit out of position at the 5 spot, but has
been successful when she can use her
quickness against bigger defenders.
April Wilson 25
G 5-7 Fr.
Wilson got only five minutes against Minnesota, a
season-low during the Big
Ten season. But she came up
with three points on her only
attempt from long distance.
Wilson had struggled a bit at Indiana, being
held scoreless in 20 minutes.
The Shelf
Bays and Thornton are redshirting
as both recover from offseason
knee surgeries.
