After experiencing hearing loss as a result of bacterial meningitis, Mingo established "Sounds of Serenity," a not-for-profit organization to raise awareness of the challenges of hearing impairments and funds to provide hearing aids to children. "It's going amazingly well, actually," Mingo said last week of the charity. "I think we have our first candidate who we are going to give our first hearing aids to. It's moving along. I know I'll be able to do more with it once I'm out of college, but for how close it is to my heart, I think it's (going well)." Mingo will be recognized for the Good Works award during the WBCA Convention at the Final Four in New Orleans. While in the city, the receipients also will participate in a community project. In this season alone, sixthyear senior Mingo also has been named a finalist for the Coach Wooden Citizenship Cup and the Senior CLASS Award, a quarterfinalist for America's Choice Honoree for Courage in Sports by CBS and the winner of the Giant Steps Courageous Student-Athlete by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports. j on the iPad Access Included for all pr subscribeint rs!
