AAAAAAAAARRRGGGHHH!!! 16 / JULY.AUGUST.2019 USICERINKS.COM Industry News Updates from around the rink Mayekawa Brings Energy Efficiency to York University , In 2016, Canlan Ice Sports replaced three of its 250 HP screw compressors in its six-pad arena, located at York University, with three MYCOM 6M reciprocating compressors with the goal of reducing energy and operating costs. In 2018, Mayekawa staff checked on the progress and were pleased with the results. The facility had reduced total compressor HP from 750 to 375, eliminated oil loss, and electricity consumption had reduced by 24% while improving ice quality. With additional fine-tuning, the facility has increased this energy reduction to 36% in the first four months of 2019. Acquires Becker Arena Products , Athletica Sport Systems Inc., the world leader in the design, manufacture, installation and service of dasher board systems, announced the acquisition of Becker Arena Products Inc. Becker is a premium provider of dasher board systems and arena aftermarket products targeting community and multiuse entertainment facilities across the U.S. "This acquisition of Becker follows on our 2018 integration of Cascadia and will complete Athletica's footprint across North America," said Andrew McRae, CEO of Athletica.
