Showers and bathrooms turned out to be too expensive to com- plete during the remodel, so they are planned as the next phase of the ongoing improvements at Hobbs. THE RESULT In total, the 2019 remodel project will result in a new concrete rink floor with subfloor heat, new dasher boards, new locker rooms that are ready for future showers and bathrooms, a mez- zanine viewing area above the locker rooms, a new paint job throughout the rink space, a new referee room and storage rooms, upgrades to the sound system, and new rubber flooring throughout. The storm water drainage between the rink build- ings will also be temporarily addressed at the time of this project. Work will be completed in time to have ice ready for the start of the youth hockey season in early October, with no effect on the normal schedule at the facility. The Akervik Rink will have ice year-round with the addition of subfloor heat to the new floor. This will allow the O'Brien Rink ice to come out every spring and stay out until the fall, which will hopefully help prevent any frost issues before its floor can be replaced in a few years once more funds are available.
