www.BLUEANDGOLD.com OCT. 26, 2019 5 FAN FORUM Many a Notre Dame follower has stated that the Sept. 21 visit to Georgia's Sanford Stadium was as loud as they've heard in any venue. That also once again raised questions about the level of noise in Notre Dame Stadium, which has noticeably become more audible with the aid of the Jumbotron added in 2017. Here is a small sampling of the responses on our mes- sage board at BlueandGold.com. AZIRish69: I did not attend the Georgia game, how- ever, there is no doubt in my mind that the crowd noise was one of the reasons which cost ND the game. It would be nice if the Notre Dame fans could replicate the excitement and noise level of that game versus USC. Also, is it too much to ask giving the fans a Terrible Towel or PomPom like so many SEC schools do for big matchups? I know just another gimmick, but it looks good on TV when you see 80,000 fans waving those darn things. Plus, NBC needs to turn up their crowd noise on the telecast instead of draining it out. That's part of the excitement — hearing the fans, bands … Mizzo37: The crowd is loud enough. I couldn't hear myself think at the UVA game. IrishRunt: I was at the UVA game. It was good but not in the same ballpark as Georgia's crowd. It wasn't in the same ballpark as the Bush Push game either. GregBell28: Apparently, you didn't attend or watch the ND-Michigan game last year. The crowd was ex- tremely loud. BigNDFan80: I can say this with 100% certainty — the act of any Georgia fan shaking a pom pom did not con- tribute to their victory. Has a team had to use a silent count at ND stadium post- construction? If there's any noise change, it's very minimal. Newuser77: I think you guys would be surprised how loud it gets on the field. I'm not joking, even the start of the New Mexico game it was extremely loud down there. Also, never heard ANY stadium louder than '05 USC. Not even Georgia … Chamgel: I was at the USC night games in 2011, 2015 and 2017, and the crowd was plenty loud in each, espe- cially 2017. CTIrish80: The stadium is louder post the construc- tion. The nine-story towers that run the whole sideline reflect the noise back into the lower bowl. SPBateman: There is absolutely no doubt that the sta- dium renovation has dramatically improved the crowd noise. That, along with the staND efforts and the con- tinuous focus on being loud, have really helped. It's not just the construction but the use of the video board (good content to hype the crowd up) and the sig- nificant improvements to the sound system. IrishinFla1: To be honest, the product on the field has been much better since the renovations have been done, which gives the crowd much more to cheer about. And the noise coming from the big board helps keep it loud in the stadium too. T_Money86: Was there for the USC game in 2017 and will be there this year. It was loud as hell in '17. I sat on the other end of the Videoboard and it still blew my eardrums out. I almost felt bad for the SC fans who were sitting right under it … almost. Septon34: Miami '88 was deafening 20 minutes before kickoff. SJB75: And some who go way back say USC-ND in 1973 was even louder. You could go on and on. SBC Nation: I've been to almost every home game since 1991. Hands down FSU '93 and USC '05 were the two loudest and it's not even close for third. Compar- ing 2017 USC with 2005 USC is a joke. Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush are on record saying it was far and away louder than any other game they played in. The home crowd has been better the last few years no doubt, but the atmosphere in those two was electric. IrishFan4Life1987: The video board sound is awful. I don't know if something is different this year, but the group I was with, and everyone around us, were all dis- cussing how terrible it sounds. The Big Montana: Trevor Laws' sack of Matt Leinart in the 2005 USC game might have been the single loud- est moment I've ever experienced in Notre Dame Sta- dium. My ears were popping and ringing for days after that game. Last play against FSU in '93 might have been louder on a per-capita basis, but there were like 20,000 fewer people there.
