He and his wife Helene searched the North Shore looking for the right property to start a gentleman's farm. They found it in Topsfield, 36 acres of rolling meadows surrounded by stone walls, with a 7 bedroom estate house that could accommodate their family of 12 children. During the next two years, the family planted the orchard, over 1300 fruit trees. With a nod to their Irish farming heritage, they named the property Connemara House. For decades the small orchard has been an apple picking destination for North Shore families. In an effort to preserve the family property and orchards for future generations, Deborah's husband Kevin Guinee and five of his brothers purchased Connemara House from their other siblings. That effort led them to expand their agritourism footprint. The families spent weekends last Spring together getting the grounds and orchards back into pristine shape. They installed a beautiful Sperry tent and last September opened the estate house and grounds as an event venue. Last Summer Deborah took the lead in getting the venue itself up and running. While her background is not in hospitality or sales, but rather 25 years as an intensive care nurse at a major Boston hospital, a lot of the skill sets she brings transfer very well. Deborah admits initially she was nervous with the prospect of starting a new business, but she knew Connemara House was a magical place to hold a milestone event. Nestled among rustic stone walls, rolling meadows and an orchard, the Georgian style estate sits at the end of a long and winding tree lined drive. That was evident at the first wedding at the venue Kevin and Deborah's son Timothy this Summer, pictures of which are displayed on the website. Off to a great start, 23 couples have booked their weddings in the past six months. Deborah is committed to personalized service and exceptional attention to detail, which translates to a customized, stress free event planning experience regardless of the size or nature of your special event. Come see Connemara House for yourself.
