Construction phases and technology potential Technology can transform and increase efficiency in key stages of a construction project. Some of these stages include RFP (Request for Proposals), pre-construction, bidding & awarding, and the actual construction phase. This paper highlights emerging technology that supports each stage to help increase efficiency. Request for proposals For retrofit projects, an initial laser scan of the existing building will show an accurate digital representation of the space. Laser scanning is the process of accurately capturing the details of a space by scattering a dense amount of laser points at exceptionally high speeds. Surveying the existing space before construction is essential for understanding how much space you have to work with, and will set the parameters for the project going forward. A laser scan ensures you start with an accurate 3D drawing. It can also help catch underlying structural issues, site conditions, and existing damage that can impact the design and construction. The laser point cloud can be imported into SketchUp, to serve as a base for creating proposals, construction documentation, and 4D animated logistics. / 4
