A total of 36 teams of two, the most ever for the local race, wound its way from Gananoque through North Leeds and Athens, before ending up at the finish line in Brockville. Teams started by travel- ling throughout Gan- anoque to compete in a variety of challenges. including parring some holes at a mini put and bowling at Delaney Bowl. Teams then went on to Lansdowne were they had to make a bracelets at the Leeds & Thousand Islands Municipal Centre, and then find letters to make a word in a smoke filled room at the new Fire Department. Lyndhurst was next, where teams had a water challenge and an obstacle course at Kendrick's Park to complete before they could move onto the Delta Fairgrounds. There, teams had to dribble a soccer ball around the track while being tied to their partner (three legged), then went to the Delta Mill where they would have a number of questions to answer based on information found in the Mill itself. The next stop was at the Forfar Dairy where teams had to eat things they wouldn't normally eat, like a blue cheese milkshake, and very hot, very spicy red pepper jelly on a cracker. The Board has also received $3.4 million in multi-year funding to improve energy efficiency within schools. The fund- ing will result in the instal- lation of small equipment designed to improve the Board's ability to monitor, control and reduce energy use in schools and strengthen multi-year energy management plans. The 2010-2011 finan- cial estimates allow the Board to continue to remain compliant with the provincially mandated pri- mary class size plan and will also allow the Board to reduce class sizes in grades 4 to 8. funding allows for an increase of ten minutes in elementary teacher preparation time and a reduction in elemen- tary supervisory time to 80 minutes per week. There is also increased support for enhanced learning oppor- tunities for elementary teachers.
