Each organization spoke out in support of keeping players, coaches, officials and fans safe during this global pandemic as the reasons behind putting the hockey season on ice. The American Collegiate Hockey Association, the governing body for non-varsity college hockey, was forced to cancel its 2020 National Championships for its five divisions. The event was slated to begin March 19 in the Dallas suburbs. ACHA National Championships The IIHF canceled the Under-18 Men's World Championship, slated to be held April 16-26 in Plymouth and Ann Arbor, Mich. The U.S. Men's U-18 National Team was aiming to win its 11th title. IIHF Men's U18 Championship After originally planning to hold the men's and women's Frozen Four inside empty arenas in Detroit and Boston, the NCAA shifted gears and cancelled all winter and spring championships. NCAA Frozen Fours The NHL made the decision to suspend its season due to the spread of the coronavirus. (At press time, the league is still exploring options to host a revamped playoffs during the summer months. Patty Kazmaier Award On March 13, USA Hockey cancelled the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award ceremony, which was scheduled to take place March 21 in Boston in conjunction with the Women's Frozen Four. Clarkson University's Elizabeth Giguere was named this year's recipient on March 27. The United States Hockey League canceled the remainder of its 2019-20 season and the Clark Cup playoffs. The league is still planning to kick off the 2020-21 season with the USHL Fall Classic at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry Township, Pa.
