Motorcycle fans mourn the passing of Marty Smith Three-time AMA Motocross Champion and SCORE Baja 1000 winner Marty Smith and his wife Nancy died in a dune-buggy accident late last April. Born and raised in San Diego, California, Smith became a motocross champion at age 17 and signed with Honda to become a part of the factory team in 1974. After a career competing and winning multiple events and championships, Smith retired in 1981 and was later inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2000. After his retirement from motocross, Smith teamed up with Larry Roeseler and Ted Hunnicut Jr. to win the 1991 SCORE Baja 1000 (Class 22), in a Kawasaki. Their overall time was the fastest of the race, beating the first four-wheel drive vehicle by three hours. BaJa Big Air Challenges You To Beat Tavo Vildosola Up for a challenge?
