NGB News U.S. Figure Skating U.S. Figure Skating rising to the shutdown challenge , As rinks across the nation closed, and skating-related events and activities were cancelled or postponed, our U.S. Figure Skating staff knew that it was time to take action and launch several new engagement initiatives. U.S. Figure Skating started at the grassroots level with Learn to Skate USA, introducing a series of easy-to-achieve weekly off-ice challenges that simulate the fun, regularly scheduled programming that new skaters look forward to week after week. Challenges were posted to the Learn to Skate USA blog every Friday and participants could complete each challenge in one of three ways: digitally via the Learn to Skate USA mobile app, on social media with an Instagram story-sized graphic, or manually with a printable PDF document. Each challenge featured a prominent theme and could be completed in a single day or over the course of a week. From the "build your own bracket" Off-ice Madness challenge to the Step it Up challenge that took participants on a virtual ascent to the top of the Statue of Liberty, the Space Needle and the Gateway Arch, each challenge was shared and celebrated by Learn to Skate USA programs across the country and saw a wide variety of participants, including Team USA figure skaters. In addition to creating fun, weekly challenges for Learn to Skate USA skaters, U.S. Figure Skating rolled out several new initiatives with its general membership including virtual dance classes, off-ice training videos, program- specific webinars, a weekly newsletter for club board members, and a bi-weekly member update email with off-ice workouts, wellness tips and inspiring stories from members across the country. U.S. Figure Skating's new member engagement initiatives, coupled with the Learn to Skate USA weekly challenges, have led to some of the highest digital engagement rates in the organization's history.
