The Ice Maintenance and Equipment Operation course introduces participants to ice resurfacer and edger components. Combined classroom theory and on-ice instruction provide participants with industry best practices for the safe operation of ice resurfacing and maintenance equipment. Participants will learn the importance and role logbooks play in the maintenance of a quality ice surface. Participants will gain the knowledge necessary to identify and correct poor ice conditions and perform ice maintenance to provide a quality ice surface. Participants will complete both a written and an on-ice practical exam on the final day of the course. This three-day management course is designed to help administrators and managers evaluate their established facility programming and maximize its potential growth. Attendees are provided resources to create and implement their own marketing plans and examine the different media delivery approaches of each. Special events, advertising (both purchasing and selling), and cross promotion of activities are also examined. This three-day course equips administrative and managerial staff with the tools to lead and manage staff efficiently and in federal compliance. Employee documentation, child labor laws, conducting interviews, and employee handbooks are just some of the many topics covered. Participants are provided with resources to develop and refine their own leadership traits as well as explore methods in reducing employee turnover, directing staff meetings, and coaching their staff in providing outstanding customer service. The Basic Arena Refrigeration course introduces participants to the cycle of refrigeration and primary mechanical components of an ice rink refrigeration system. Participants will learn the importance and the role logbooks play in maintenance of the refrigeration equipment. Participants will gain an understanding of how the refrigeration cycle relates to the installation and maintenance of a quality ice surface. Participants will also learn how to identify potential energy savings through efficient operations of the refrigeration system. Participants will complete a written exam on the last day of the course.
