JULY/AUGUST 2020 ■ 35 the most accurate as well," Gregory said. "More than anything for Trenton, that's why he was able to have success. "When you have a snapper that tells you he's going to put the ball on your right hip, right above your belt every single time, and does it, it makes a punter's life that much easier." Gill's actions off the field after the season have been equally admirable. When COVID-19 put the country on pause in March, the punter returned home to Hillsborough, where he noticed many of the local restaurants were struggling to stay in business through the pandemic. Once he read that his hometown food banks were quickly running out of supplies due to high demand, he felt a call to action. "I wondered if I could do something to help both parties out," Gill said. "That's how I came up with the idea to buy gift cards because it would provide money to the restaurants and would also be a good way to get food out to the community." In just under a week, Gill was able to raise almost $8,000 to be used for gift cards donated to families in need in the Hillsbor- ough area. "This was an eye-opening experience. If you have a vision, a lot of people are willing to help you," Gill said. "Being a student- athlete at NC State really helped me out. I was able to use my platform to get the word out and help people." Gill enters the 2020 football season with two years of eligibility remaining as a red- shirt junior. Considered a second-team pre- season All-American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Street & Smith's, the punter says he's just as hungry to im- prove this season as he was last year. "My goal is just to get better every day," Gill said. "I can't control the awards — all I can control are the things that I do. The hard work pays off on its own." ■ " The moral of this story is that this dude just outworked everyone. " Worth Gregory, former NC State special teams quality control coach
