20 / JULY.AUGUST.2020 USICERINKS.COM Hubbard began putting his stamp on the facility, which included a second major renovation. The upgrades were large in numbers, with the Hubbards spending more than $5 million to update the facility. That included replac- ing the Outpost's original ice, sta- dium seating in one of the rinks along with a VIP viewing room, LED lighting, new rink boards, player boxes and an LED scoreboard. Aside from the rink upgrades, other parts of the facility were given a nice spruce. That included the office space, the pro shop and the bar and grill. The renovations wrapped up in 2019. In the midst of the remodel, Thompson stepped back from his position of general manager into an advisory role. His replace- ment was Trevor Flint. Though Flint grew up in Mississippi without a hockey background, the long- time Air Force Colonel used his military experience along with help from his family to ease into the role. During his 27-year stint with the Air Force, he was involved in operations and management. Meanwhile, his wife grew up in Minot, North Dakota, and loved hockey. That led to their two sons, 9 and 12 years old, to join the youth program. With new leadership in place and the facility having a fresh look, the Outpost was taking a number of big steps to increase its footing in Albuquerque. "It just improved the whole experience all the way around," Flint said. "It's con- tinuing the legacy of this place." An Exciting Future For the staff at the Outpost, the next big step came in the launch of the New Mexico Ice Wolves.
