Tony Granato From the spirited pickup games at their Downers Grove, Ill., home to cheering as his sister led the U.S. to the first women's gold medal in Olympic history, Tony Granato has always been about family first and foremost. And now the Granato family can celebrate as Tony joins his sister in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. "The game of hockey is what bound our family and there is a common ground. It's our happy place," said the oldest sibling. "We're very fortunate and when things like this happen, you draw back on those memories and those experiences, and you become grateful for the opportunities that you've had because of the game." Granato followed a prolific college career at the University of Wisconsin, where he stands fourth all-time in school history in points, with a stint with the U.S. Men's National Team and ulti- mately represented the U.S. at the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, one of seven times he donned the red, white and blue as a player on the international stage. He would join the NHL soon after the Olympic flame was extin- guished, setting a rookie goal-scoring record with the N.Y. Rangers that still stands today. He would go on to a 13-year career that included seven seasons playing with Wayne Gretzky as part of the Los Angeles Kings. Following retirement, Granato spent 13 seasons in the NHL as a head or assistant coach with 12 of those campaigns including winning records. In 2016 he returned to coach at his alma mater and continues in that role today.
