HARD ICE DIVIDER PROGRAM CONTINUES Minnesota Hockey, in partnership with Rink Systems, Inc., will continue to offer the Minnesota Hockey Hard Ice Divider Subsidy Program for the 2020-21 season. The hard ice dividers, along with junior size goal frames, have been instrumental in the growth of cross- and half-ice games across the country as more and more youth programs have embraced age-appro- priate skill development. Minnesota Hockey affiliated associa- tions that register to purchase a "hard divider" system can apply for a $2,500 subsidy through the program. Associations will also be able to purchase the junior goal frames at a discounted price. Over 75 associations from all over the state have taken advantage of the dis- count and now utilize more than 100 sets of dividers in their community arenas. INDIVIDUAL TRAINING IS THE NEW NORMAL IN 2020 As players prepare for the upcoming hockey season, it is the perfect time to put a well-balanced training program together. Besides time on the ice and with teammates, the most complete players are focusing on individual training to supple- ment their hockey routines by turning to the Hockey IntelliGym. For over 10 years, IntelliGym has been the at-home software tool used by thousands of players in Minnesota to hone hockey sense. Using the Hockey IntelliGym year-round keeps players engaged in interactive drills while continu- ally working on game awareness, anticipa- tion and important decision making skills, especially under pressure. In addition to improved on-ice performance, IntelliGym has also shown to decrease the potential for head and other on-ice injuries by 50%, which is backed by a 2018 study conducted by the University of Delaware. The new normal in hockey development is the hybrid approach that balances on-ice and off-ice training. Learn more at: USAHockeyIntelliGym.com. WHAT ARE FAIR PLAY POINTS? Minnesota Hockey introduced the Fair Play program with the goal of promoting safety and sportsmanship by rewarding teams for maintaining proper behavior during competition. Under the Fair Play system, teams earn an extra point (Fair Play Point or FPP) in their district or league standings for staying under an established threshold of penalty minutes. FAIR PLAY PIM THRESHOLD CHART Squirt 10 min Girls 10U 8 min Peewee 12 min Girls 12U 10 min Bantam 14 min Girls 15U 12 min Youth 16U 16 min Girls 16U 14 min Junior Gold 16 min Girls 19U 14 min If a coach is assessed a Game Misconduct or Match Penalty, a spectator is requested to leave the arena by an official, or a player receives a penalty for offensive, hateful or discriminatory conduct, that team will not be eligible for a Fair Play Point regardless of their total penalty minutes. While Fair Play does not impact the outcome of individual games, consistently good (or bad) behavior can have a cumulative effect on league standings and playoff seedings, encouraging players, coaches and parents to display positive behavior at all events.
