21K graduated in May this year.
It has been estimated that the combined effect of
the pandemic and protests have halved the
number of job vacancies. Graduate salaries are
expected to be 20% lower than last year.
In Q2, the unemployment rate for 15-19 year olds
and 20-24 year olds was 18.8% and 14.3%
respectively.
Over half a million people in Hong Kong are
engaged in tourism related work. In 2016-18
inbound tourism accounted for 11.5% of GDP.
These jobs are at risk due to the protests and
Covid-19.
Hong Kong has now been in recession for 5
quarters with negative YOY GDP growth of 3.4%
in Q3.
Unemployment is at the highest rates since early
2005.
