NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2020 ■ 9 TRACKING THE PACK Pack Adds Point Guard To Hoops Class NC State landed a two-sport star for its basket- ball recruiting class when Reidsville (N.C.) High point guard Breon Pass chose the Wolfpack over offers from Georgia Tech, Providence, Rutgers and St. John's, among others. The 6-0, 175-pounder may have been more prized as a football prospect, where he had of- fers from the Pack, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest as a receiver/cornerback. However, this summer he chose to focus just on hoops in college. Through three years at Reidsville, Pass has averaged 20.7 points, 7.6 rebounds, 5.1 as- sists and 3.1 steals per game while shooting an impressive 48.0 percent on three-pointers. "The thing that you'll notice about him is that he really plays on both ends of the court, and that was indicated when he averaged over three steals a game at the high school level," said Rick Lewis, founder of the scouting service Phenom Hoop Report. "He's a complete guard. He can play the point, he can be an explosive playmaker, he can get his teammates involved, but he also has the ability to create his own shot off the bounce. "He has good range, he has a mid-range game, and he's crafty around the rim and also in the paint." "Pass is a team guy," added national recruit- ing analyst Jamie Shaw of Absolute Basketball. "There are no real holes in his game with his elite shooting ability and on-the-ball defense. He is a true leader in the locker room and carries a magnetic personality." Pass joins four-star guard Terquavion Smith (6-3, 175 pounds) from Farmville (N.C.) Central and four-star forward Ernest Ross (6-9, 205 pounds) from Alachua (Fla.) Santa Fe High in the Wolfpack's 2021 recruiting class. Rivals.com ranks Pass as a three-star prospect and the No. 34 point guard in the country, while Smith is listed as the No. 99 prospect regard- less of position in the land and Ross checks in at No. 54 overall nationally. On Halloween, NC State learned that it made the top five for four-star center Roosevelt Wheeler from John Marshall High in Richmond, Va. The 6-10, 230-pounder is ranked as the No. 42 prospect in the country. — Matt Carter BREON PASS A PERCENTAGE OF EVERY HOME SALE GOES TO SUPPORT ALZHEIMER'S RESEARCH AND CARE.
