A 19-yard pass to McKinley highlighted the drive before Book escaped from an- other strong rush and found Skow- ronek for a 13-yard touchdown with 5:43 remaining and a 24-13 cushion … Boumerhi kicked his third field goal (3:12 left) to make it 24-16 … After a lost fumble by Notre Dame's Williams, Boston College returned the favor when an early and errant snap by center Alec Lindstrom sailed past Jurkovec and was recovered by fifth-year senior defensive end Dae- lin Hayes at the Boston College 49- yard line with 2:09 left … Skowronek caught his third touchdown pass of the day on a seven-yard fade with four seconds left for a 31-16 lead. On fourth-and-one from the Eagles' 40-yard line, freshman running back Chris Tyree ran for four yards, and Book later added a 16-yard scramble. THIRD QUARTER NOTRE DAME, 38-23 Top Moment: Boston College fielded the second-half kickoff and marched to the Irish 9-yard line, where it faced fourth-and-one while trailing 31-16. A run to the right by Levy was stuffed for no gain and a missed opportunity to make it a one- score game. Feature Performer: Flemister, who would get injured a little later, car- ried four times for 30 yards and a one-yard score in which he broke a tackle that would have resulted in lost yardage and instead gave Notre Dame its largest lead at 38-16 with 6:34 left. Prior to his score, he snagged a 27-yard pass in the flat. Stats: Boston College had the ball for 10:36 during the quarter while Notre Dame ran only eight plays on offense. Items: With the score 31-16, Skow- ronek lost a fumble at Boston Col- lege's 39-yard line after a 26-yard gain, but on the next play sophomore linebacker Jack Kiser intercepted a Jurkovec pass to give the Irish a first down at the Eagles' 43-yard line, which set up Flemister's touchdown … With 35 seconds left, David Bailey scored from three yards out to make it 38-23. FOURTH QUARTER NOTRE DAME, 45-31 Top Moment: With 12:19 left, Book sidestepped yet another pass rush and easily scored on six-yard touch- down run on third-and-three to ex- tend the lead to 45-23. Feature Performer: Notre Dame's offensive line went into its run-the- clock-out offense and controlled the ball 12:49 during the quarter. It took a knee twice inside the Boston College 5-yard line in the final minute rather than try to score. Stats: Notre Dame's balanced at- tack featured 283 passing yards and 278 rushing yards, with its 561 total 204 more yards than the Eagles' 357. Items: The final tally came with 4:09 remaining when Jurkovec found tight end Hunter Long on an eight- yard touchdown.
