Canada Day is next Wednesday, July 1 and volunteers across the region have activities lined up from morning to night. Chaffey's Locks The Chaffey's Lock Heritage Society hosts a Canada Day celebration at the lock station grounds from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a barbecue and live music. Delta At the Lower Beverley Lake Park there are activities for children at 10:00 a.m. and entertainment by Rebekka Paige from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Newboro The Village of Newboro celebrates Canada Day with a variety of activities starting at 2-6 p.m., at the Newboro Locks on the 'Stage'. 2 p.m. Pirate of the Rideau Karaoke – Brent House. Karaoke will run intermittently throughout the afternoon on stage. Brent has many selections as well as children's music. 2:30 p.m. Kingston Down Home Cloggers 3:00 p.m. Adishakti – Belly Dancing – Back for a sec- ond year by popular demand 3:30 p.m. Newboro Great "Toy Boat Race". Limited # of toy boats available. Get your boat # today – Prize $120. 4:00 p.m. Children's Three Legged Race 4:30 p.m. Junior Karaoke 5:00 p.m. Cake Cutting Ceremony – Cake and Lemonade served 5:30 p.m. Children's Bean Bag Toss 6:00 p.m. Stage Entertainment ends. Parade entries – and more are needed – include deco- rated bicycles (children's & adults): decorated pets; floats; horses; clowns; vintage cars. Line up at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. start. Portland (June 27) Canada's Birthday celebrations come early this year on the Big Rideau with a fireworks display set off from Cow Island providing a unique spectacle on and off the water this Saturday, June 27. The event is sponsored by donations to the Big Rideau Lake Association The display can be viewed from the Portland com- munity dock in the center of town for those travelling by vehicles or walking and may be viewed by boaters by anchoring at a safe distance from Cow Island . Rain date is July 4. Seeley's Bay The Seeley's Bay Canada Day Committee has activi- ties through the day and evening ending with a spectac- ular fireworks display at dusk. Event highlights include: Canada's Birthday Parade – Town Crier, George Williams will lead colourful parade entries through Seeley's Bay celebrating "Canada". Parade partici- pants are asked to meet at 3:15 pm to be organized. Kids walking or on bikes are asked to gather at Centennial Park park- ing lot. All other parade participants are asked to gather at Drynan Way Plaza. Birthday Ceremonies – Following the parade at 5 pm, all festival-goers are invited to join the Seeley's Bay Canada Committee in celebrating Canada's 142nd Birthday complete with cake and cookies. Get ready for some furry fun with the Canada Day Pet Show open to dogs and cats at Centennial Park at 5:30 p.m. Evening Illumination – Just before the fireworks we are hosting a Candlelight Ceremony to pay tribute to the Canadian Armed Forces and their families. Westport A children's bicycle parade and color party and birth- day cake at the Rideau District Museum precede an afternoon of music and children's activities at the Lions Club Beach. The day is capped off by a huge fireworks display over Sand Lake. There is no parking at the site but a shuttle service is available from the village begin- ning at 2:00 p.m. 1 p.m. Commencement of Canada Day with cele- brations at the Rideau District Museum with the colour party of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 542 1:15 p.m. 12th Annual Bicycle Parade from the Rideau District Museum. Decorate your bicycle with red & white and proudly ride throughout town. 2-8 p.m. Airbounce Amusements featuring "Jolly Roger" For ages 12 and under and Rainbow Slide For ages 12 and up. 2 p.m. Free Shuttle Bus begins from the Westport Community Centre and St. Edwards School. The afternoon at the beach also includes pony rides, petting zoo and a special kids corner. DJ Tom Gard will also be joined by special entertainment including The Kingston Egyptian Dance Ensemble at 8:30 p.m. and Dan Stoness' tribute to Johnny Cash and Elvis throught the afternoon and evening. Canteen, swimming and changing facilities are also available.
