Their legacy WebLogic applications disrupted operations and service availability, because when an application crashed, it compromised the entire cluster, making it hard to determine which application caused the problem. In addition, the slow and brittle cluster only allowed the team to deploy one application at a time. Goals • Modernize existing WebLogic applications to improve reliability and service availability • Enhance configuration management to ease maintenance efforts • Free up administrator time for new initiatives Alm. Brand creates modernization pipeline Alm. Brand migrated 39 WebLogic applications to isolated containers on a standardized configuration. The first—and largest—app took only three months to modernize, and established processes that let them modernize legacy apps on the fly. Transitioning traffic gradually f rom existing clusters to the new Mirantis Kubernetes Engine platform assured smooth migrations. Outcomes • Reduced VM configurations by more than 50% • Eased maintenance and troubleshooting and reduced service interruptions by isolating applications f rom one another • Centralized logging and metrics collection by running all applications on the same Mirantis Kubernetes Engine environment Alm.
