TRAVEL 25 23 7 Issue 51 / 2013 www.guestlist.net WELCOME TO Berlin! On a Budget Drinking Barbie Deinhoff's From gimp masks to jock straps, it's safe to say this Barbie themed bar attracts all types. Packed with students and artsy types, the drinks are cheap and the nights are fun Bei Schlawinchen In a city dominated by hipster bars, this establishment remains gritty and local at heart. Its open 24 hours so be prepared for day time regulars or post-partiers, it all makes for fantastic conversation though. Die Weinerei 2€Euros and you can rent a glass, drink as much wine as you like, then tip as much as you think it was worth. This unique approach to peddling liquor is easily abused. Yet the nature of the place is one of naivety trust which embodies people with a sense of morality. EATING Hühnerhaus Located in Görlitzer Park, this little establishment delivers the most fantastically grilled chicken around. The popularity of the place is evident by the large crowds and yet your chicken and sides still seems to get to you relatively fast. The Bird A slice of New York located in central Berlin has its delicious range of steaks imported from Iowa. All food is fresh, the staff all speak English, and just like in America, the portions are enormous. Hamy Cafe This Vietnamese open kitchen serves 2 main dishes every day and food gets to you fast seemingly regardless of the crowd. Sit in the communal tables and fraternise with the locals and other travellers. SLEEPING Pfeffersbet The ex-brewery turned modern hostel is considered one of the best in Germany, let along Berlin. And it's easy to see why, they elevated lobby is a great place to meet people, there is a 24 hour bar and cafe and its situated in a lively part of the city. Hostelboat Eastern Comfort If land is getting boring there's cabin waiting from you on the river Spree. The rooms are great (you can even camp on the deck) and there's a nearby beach just next to the most stunning bridge in the city for you to marvel at. EastSeven Hostel Another world renowned establishment. Although it's only eight years old, in that small time its developed a cosy and friendly atmosphere. You can find it in a tranquil part of Berlin, not far from a fantastic selection of shops and bars. Win! A summer of stoke travel A series of holiday giveaways! The lovely people over at Stoke Travel are offering you the opportunity to have a summer of a lifetime! Meet knew people from all over the world at some of the best festivals Europe has to offer. PARTYING Berghain A complete beast is one way to describe it; Berghain is a hub for Berlin's famous techno scene. Sometimes incredibly hard to get into but always worth it, selections of rooms play a diverse range of electronica and there's usually a slightly different musical theme each night. Club Der Visionaere A canal based venue that never ends. A stark contrast to the likes of Berghain, a far more relaxed atmosphere for the post partiers or those that are mellower. Unsurprisingly the music is generally techno (although minimalistic) but that shouldn't stop you checking out this topnotch venue. Tresor Pure techno. Whilst techno is clearly the lifeblood of most Berlin clubs, none are more dedicated to the cause than Tresor. The set list is, and always will be, techno. It attracts top techno talent from across the globe and is a fantastic underground venue for both the purists and those who like being dropped in the deep end. The prize (Value of £600!)
