Countering Illicit Trafficking Because they are largely unmonitored, the world's oceans are notorious for drug- and human-trafficking routes. Vessels engaged with illegal trafficking oen operate dark—without AIS—and behave differently than vessels engaged in legal activity. This compounds the challenges for maritime enforcement agencies to successfully intervene. TRANSSHIPMENT EVENT | SOUTH OF THE GALAPAGOS | AUGUST 27, 2020 | GEOEYE-1 Maxar's Crow's Nest MMS product bundle detects vessels greater than 10 meters in length using SAR imagery, regardless of if AIS is on, and delivers images to customers in as fast as 30 minutes aer image acquisition. Maxar then quickly tasks its constellation of satellites to collect fresh optical images of the vessels with enough clarity and detail that the vessels can oen be identified with a high degree of confidence and accuracy: 30- to 50-centimeter optical imagery provides decision-makers with clear evidence of violations.
