ATTRACTIONS www.travelweeklyweb.com Ocean Art on display SINGAPORE – In conjunction with the World Oceans Day, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) and The Old Parliament The clown fish by Dawn Kwan House (TOPH) have launched Ocean Art Charity, a fivemonth long campaign that showcases the works of young budding talents, through artworks that centre on the theme of marine life. At the launch, young visual artists from The Little Arts Academy put their painting skills to use, by painting in front of a live audience, at the S.E.A. Aquarium. Also on display were works of Singaporean child prodigy artists, Ashley Ann Tan and Dawn Kwan. From now until October 31, 2013, young artists aged 19 and below, who have the passion for marine life, can submit their artwork at the Marine Life Park blog. Submissions will be assessed and shortlisted by panel of judges; Milenko Prvacki, cultural medallion award winner for Visual Arts 2012, Jennifer Soen, owner of Sunjin Galleries, Sun Yu-Li, architect-turned-sculptor, Michael Aw, renowned marine photographer and conservationist and representatives from RWS and TOPH. Artworks will be on display on the blog as well as at RWS, for auction where proceeds will go to The Business Times Budding Artists Fund and The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund. Visit the Marine Life Park blog at www.mlp.rwsentosablog.com. New Frozen Tundra exhibit at Singapore Zoo SINGAPORE – Inuka, the first ever polar bear that was born in the tropics, has moved into his new Frozen Tundra home, with a "housecooling" party that followed. The new exhibit, a 2,700 square metre exhibit features climate controlled resting areas, an expanded pool and two new sections for Inuka's new neighbours; racoon dogs and wolverines. The Frozen Tundra is modelled closely after the chilly arctic habitat. The pool is filled with giant ice blocks, there is also an ice cave and natural substrates are incorporated to provide the polar bear with a holistic home. The new habitat is a result of Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS)'s commitment to upgrade Inuka's living space and also reinforce WRS' vision of providing visitors with interactive and enriching wildlife exhibits that provide for greater knowledge of the natural world, including of the climate, wildlife and issues facing the arctic habitat. "At Singapore Zoo, we remain committed to not only providing a fun and beautiful park where families can bond over the wonders of mother nature, but also to our vision of engaging and educating our visitors about the natural world, the animals that share our planet and their habitats. This is a core value of Singapore Zoo," said Lee Meng Tat, chief executive officer, WRS. "Those values and goals go hand in hand with our deep love of our animal friends here at Singapore Zoo, and Inuka is a shining example of that love." Inuka's new home at Singapore Zoo Dr Lee Boon Yang, Chairman of SPH and SPH Foundation, officiated the launch ceremony of Frozen Tundra with Mr Lee and WRS board member Mr Chia Ngiang Hong. SPH Foundation is a longtime adopter of Inuka. Frozen Tundra is open daily from 8.30am to 6pm. In the Coming Issue...
