15 February, 2021 Bolivia International migrant stock is 1.4% of total population. In 2019, approximately a fifth of Bolivians had emigrated. Many migrants in Chile were forced to return and others voluntarily returned as a result of the pandemic and job losses. Red Cross report, up to 800 migrants a day were crossing from Bolivia into Chile during January 2021. In response to this, additional checkpoints have been added along the border. Many of the migrants are from Venezuela although there are also Peruvians and Bolivians. Since 2014, almost 3 thousand residence permits have been issued to Venezuelans. 69.4% of the population were living in urban areas in 2018, compared with 67.3% during 2012.
