WHITE PAPER Rappid: A modular, application-ready spectrum processing platform mrcy.com 3 mrcy.com 3 What is Rappid? Rappid enables next-generation modular, open system development. Rappid is: ▪ Design methodologies to specify the usage of ▫ Open standards hardware (such as SOSA or OpenVPX) or commercial hardware ▫ Open software layer ▪ Docker ▪ Ethernet ▪ Ready-to-use hardware drivers ▫ Open firmware through the Mercury-developed OpenFPGA ▪ A standardized interface for FPGA module development ▪ Partial reconfiguration modules ▪ Middleware applications to decrease development time ▪ Security-enabled hardware for easier deployment of secure solutions to the field Adopting and using Rappid is a simple and powerful method to transform subsystem development, deployment and sustainment life cycle. Rappid is a win-win platform since it is not a significant departure from current subsystem design methods. However, when the Rappid platform is embraced in its entirety, powerful results are possible. This application-ready platform is a step toward a full hardware-agnostic platform, revolutionizing the way spectrum processing systems are built and how those systems are maintained and updated once deployed. Rappid simplifies mission application development and provides an approach to developing applications, much like today 's mobile device software and hardware frameworks. To address the need for a standard for FPGA firmware development and interfacing, Rappid includes Mercury 's OpenFPGA standard. This standard enables IP reuse across differing hardware implementations. Current methods of introducing an emerging capability involve soliciting multiple vendors to develop the same capability on multiple systems–an inefficient and costly endeavor. All this while still enabling IP ownership by the system solution developers. SYSTEM 1 EW capability development for SYSTEM 1 SYSTEM 2 EW capability development for SYSTEM 2 SYSTEM 3 EW capability development for SYSTEM 3 SYSTEM 1 SYSTEM 3 SYSTEM 2 EW capability development for ALL SYSTEMS The Rappid way of developing and deploying an EW capability on multiple systems Traditional Silo Development vs Rappid Development Common way of developing and deploying an EW capability on multiple systems Introducing the Rappid™ Spectrum Processing Platform. To address these needs, Mercury Systems has developed an open spectrum processing platform. Rappid brings an unparalleled level of openness and modularity by separating the hardware from the techniques and applications to simplify subsystem updates and reduce system design time.
