DL player bios Position Coach Greg Mattison begins his first year as Michigan's defensive line coach and his third year as the Wolverines' defensive coordinator. In his two seasons prior, he helped Michigan's defense improve from 110th nationally in total defense (450.8 yards allowed per game) and 108th in scoring defense (35.2 points allowed per game) in 2010 to 17th (322.2) and sixth (17.4) in 2011, and 13th (320.0) and 20th (19.9) in 2012. Mattison worked with Michigan's rush ends and Sam linebackers in 2011-12, but has extensive experience as a defensive line coach, holding that position from 1977-96 with Cornell, Northwestern, Western Michigan, Navy, Texas A&M and Michigan.
