CALL BARNUM AND BAILEY — All hope for a share of the Legends Division title seemingly went poof after Northwestern scored with less than a minute to go, giving them a three-point edge. But fifth-year senior wide receiver Roy Roundtree and the Wolverines had some magic up their sleeve. With the clock reading 18 seconds and the Wolverines inside their own 35, quarterback Devin Gardner took the snap, felt some pressure, angled towards the middle of the field and heaved a missile towards Northwestern's end zone. Roundtree cut inside his defender just past the 10. The Wildcats corner attempted coming over the top, but Roundtree somehow managed to get a hand on the football, tip it to himself, and cradle it between his shoulder and hand as his knee hit the turf. The 53-yard play set up a 26-yard field goal by Brandon Gibbons to tie the game and force overtime in an eventual 38-31 Michigan win. 2. ELASTIC SHOELACE — With just less than a minute left in the first half against Ohio State, senior Denard Robinson took the snap at his own 40, followed a convoy of blockers in front of him and hit the hole. Two Ohio State defenders hammered Robinson from each side, but he ran right through them, racing 67 yards to the end zone. 3. NOW YOU SEE HIM, NOW YOU DON'T — During Michigan's 42-17 demolition of Iowa on Senior Day, more than a few Hawkeyes were shaken by an body-jarring juke from Denard Robinson, but one instance stood out. In one case, the senior quarterback took the snap at the Michigan 30, carried the ball around the right side, got a key block, and stopped — just long enough for the Iowa corner to hesitate and commit to one direction. Robinson then accelerated from an almost full stop to avoid him, cut to the right and ran down the sideline to the Iowa 30-yard line for a gain of 40 yards. 4. WELCOME TO THE NEW AGE — Ohio State had the ball at midfield trailing by four with just more than eight minutes to go in the first half. Buckeyes' quarterback Braxton Miller took the snap, dropped three steps and was absolutely destroyed by an unblocked monster of a sack from Michigan defensive end Frank Clark. The sophomore celebrated for a moment with his teammates, while Miller was understandably woozy getting to his feet. Wide receiver Jeremy Gallon helped U-M beat Minnesota with a 47-yard sideline grab followed by a leaping 10-yard touchdown reception. photo by lon horwedel Nov. 3: Michigan does what it normally does when they play Minnesota: beats up on the Gophers and keep the Little Brown Jug. The Wolverines torch Minnesota through the air in a game that see the first collegiate start for junior quarterback Devin Gardner. The multi-talented junior from Detroit, filling in for the injured Robinson, shows off his arm, passing for 234 yards and two scores, while rushing for another. Nov. 10: The Maize and Blue prevail over Northwestern in overtime, 38-31, in a heartstopping game at The Big House. The victory requires some last-second heroics from fifth-year senior wide receiver Roy Roundtree, who tips the ball to himself and hauls in an acrobatic 53- 5. GO UP AND GET IT — In the battle with Minnesota for the Little Brown Jug, diminutive wideout Jeremy Gallon showed up big, pulling in four throws for 72 yards and a score. Midway through the third quarter with Michigan up 14-7 and the ball at its own 31, Gallon made a beautiful catch in stride down the sideline for 47 yards. Several downs later, Gardner lofted a throw that was snagged by a leaping Gallon above the Minnesota secondary for a 10-yard score. yard reception to set up Gibbons' field goal to send the game to overtime. Gardner continues his maturation by passing for 286 yards. Nov. 17: Michigan manhandles Iowa 42-17 on Senior Day to atone for last season's controversial loss in Iowa City. Gardner has a career day, tallying an amazing six touchdowns. He passes for three scores and bested his previous career high with 314 passing yards, while finding pay dirt on the ground three times. The Wolverines post their second straight undefeated home schedule. 194  ■  The Wolverine 2013 Football Preview Nov. 24: Michigan falls to Ohio State 26-21 in Columbus.
