michigan top 15 times, with most high school offensive tackles unable to handle the 6-4, 235-pounder. He also has a tendency to disappear in games and needs to keep rounding out his skill set. His speed rush and bull rush will be complemented when he adds to his technique. Marshall committed to Ohio State in February, but decommitted within a week. He later narrowed his list to Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Wisconsin before picking U-M May 12. Rivals.com graded him as the No. 17 weakside defensive end in the nation. 11. Connor Hayes, OL Traverse City West Hayes has the 6-5, 275-pound mass that will allow him to become a top offensive lineman — he simply needs to work on his technique and continue to shape his body. While the nation's elite didn't come calling, Hayes has the drive to prove those coaches wrong. He committed to Pittsburgh in April. 12. Matt Sokol, TE 14. Travis Smith, QB Although he's a high school quarterback, the 6-5, 225-pound Sokol will be a tight end at the next level. He has a good frame and is a good athlete, but will have to learn the nuances of route running and blocking to succeed at the next level. He will also have to add plenty of weight. Sokol committed to Michigan State over offers from MAC schools in May. Smith is an accurate 6-2, 190-pounder who puts good zip on the ball despite lacking outstanding arm strength. He needs to continue working on his decision making in a pro-style offense, since the spread his high school team runs is so high-powered (to the tune of zero losses in three years and counting) that he can get away with mistakes. He has offers from Central Michigan, Toledo and Western Michigan. Rochester Adams Ithaca H.S. 13. Jalen Embry, CB 15. Tommy Doles, OL Detroit King Collegiate The 5-11, 175-pound Embry may be slight of build, but he's a very smooth athlete, which should allow him to succeed at the next level. He has good technique and is far more physical than his frame would suggest, but needs to add size to excel in college, since he doesn't have elite high-end speed. Embry has a number of offers from MAC schools and middle-tier Big Ten institutions, and will not make a decision until after his senior year. Grand Rapids Christian H.S. Doles is a slightly undersized lineman at 6-4 and 245 pounds, but has a frame to get much larger. He has quick feet and a good understanding of leverage, helping him overcome his lack of size as a high school player. He also has a nasty demeanor on the football field. Doles surprised many when he committed to Northwestern over an offer from Michigan in early May. ❏ 2014 U-M Calendars QTy.
