" Navisite Partners with Friends Without A Border to Support Mission-Critical EMR System for Lao Friends Hospital for Children CASE STUDY From Paper-Based to EMR Solution Friends Without A Border is a non-profit organization providing f ree and compassionate healthcare to low-income families and children in Southeast Asia. In 2015, Friends Without A Border opened its second pediatric hospital, the Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC), in Luang Prabang, a city in northern Laos. In its first year of operation, LFHC treated nearly 20,000 children. Today, the pediatric hospital sees more than 100 children each day. "LFHC opened its doors with only an outpatient department, but has rapidly expanded to include an inpatient department, emergency room, neonatal unit, surgical theater, as well as developmental and thalassemia clinics," said Denis Martin, Board of Directors, Friends Without a Border. "To support this growth, we needed to transition f rom a paper-based system to an electronic medical records (EMR) solution that could effectively manage patient information and support clinicians." Skilled IT Partner Needed Martin and his team set out to find a solution that would not only digitize LFHC's clinical and patient information, but one that would be sustainable in a hospital environment. "We were facing several issues in our quest to automate clinical data," said Martin. "First, LFHC is a low-income hospital—all of its money is raised through Friends Without A Border. Second, because of the remote location of Luang Prabang, technical resources in the region are extremely limited. We needed a solution that would help us move forward with an EMR despite these challenges." Navisite came in with the right tool set, the right skill set and, frankly, the right attitude to help support a mission-critical EMR system in a low- resource hospital. Their services are vital to the system's performance and stability."
