HIP HOP / RNB 29 7 www.guestlist.net Issue 52 / 2013 album of the month: Watching movies with the sound off 'Watching Movies with the Sound Off' is a reference to when Mac is producing in his studio and is generating hype. It's clear that hip-hop has given him the green light due to the high caliber production that is involved in the project. This time around Mac is different, and the album is less about his rise in his hometown than 2011's 'Blue Slide Park' and more about his experiences in the music industry. This album has lots of features including production from Mac Miller himself and the likes of Flying lotus, Pharrel Williams and Chuck inglish. Mac also collaborates with talented lyricists like Earl Sweatshirt, Absoul, Action Bronson, Schoolboy Q, Jay Electronica and Tyler, the creator. This album seems like a breath of fresh air in hip hop and a turn in the right direction for Mac Miller, increasing his respectability as a Hip Hop artist. Event review: Action Bronson Live @Koko Guestlist recommends: Czarface CZARFACE is the collaborative outfit made up of Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck, and duo 7L + Esoteric who have arrived to claim back the throne From the West Coast; CZARFACE are known for their dope rhyme suppliers, like Tony Montana. With this release the East Coast is back and they mean business. The feud may have finished but lyrically the war rages on. The recent success of West Coast rappers like Kendrick Lamar meant it was the East Coast's turn to throw down the gauntlet and show us what they've got. Using the classic 90's East Coast blueprint they have created an album that is not only a return to that sound, but innovative enough to bring the sound into the 21st Century. 'Savagely Attack', featuring Ghostface Killah, is a highlight but it would be unfair to single out a track from this album. On top of that, check the artwork out as it's some of the coolest we have seen in a long time. Just like Wu-Tang Clan were all about samples, strong beats and the art of emceeing, so is Czarface. The production on the album is careful and considered with each sample selected perfectly to fit in the album, and each track jumps at you, or as Ghostface tells in the aforementioned track, 'attacks like a n**** on bath salts...' It is a dark and aggressive album that takes no prisoners and demands to be heard, loud. OUR PLAYLIST... Here's the hip hop on our playlist this month: AZ We Movin Pharrell Happy Action Bronson Strictly for my Jeeps Nipsey Hussle Face the World Action Bronson took to the stage at Camden's KOKO for his biggest UK headline show to date. Hype for the show was rife, with punters queuing for entry hours before doors. Support came from South London's Amplify Dot, who has been in the rap game since she was 13. She gave a confident display of solid tracks to an unfortunately subdued audience, despite her best attempts to liven up the sold out crowd. They didn't stay lifeless for long though. Action Bronson arrived to the stage amidst a cacophony of screaming and wailing accompanied by a colossal surge, as people attempted to get as close as they could to the Queens rapper who is rapidly becoming the name on everyone's lips. This show at KOKO proved that in no way is Bronson losing his appetite for being the ultimate crowd pleaser. More recommends: Guestlist.net
