METOS USES LoRaWAN
®
TO REMOTELY MONITOR HIGH BUSH
BLUEBERRY PRODUCTION
•
When High Bush Blueberries are produced commercially, they are grown in container plants because the pH in natural soil
is too high in many areas. Using PI54D and METER Terros 12 sensors, users can access information on weather variables
such as solar radiation, wind speed, temperature, relative humidity, and soil moisture.
•
60 cm drill and drop sensors are used for sand soils in open field blueberry production. The drill and drop sensors are
installed in the planting dam to monitor the soil moisture in the root zone. From the data collected using the probes, users
are able to better plan and control their irrigation systems.
•
Models are used to facilitate in understanding infection dates and times, allowing the user to improve plant protection.
•
iScout traps are used to monitor fruit flies, and CropView allows potential clients to see how the fruit is growing through a
field camera.
•
During early spring, to prevent the tunnels from freezing, one to two fleece layers cover the plants for frost protection.
High temperatures are also a concern and tunnels can raise to 28ºC, which may put the yield in danger.
•
Users can access data and receive SMS alerts to monitor air temperature in the tunnels to avoid damaging situations
through the FieldClimate web servers.
•
In areas that have a moderate climate, open-field production is used for High Bush Blueberry production. Frost protection
is used to protect the crop when there is late frost risk and good water availability. Wet and dry bulb temperature sensors
are used to monitor the crops. Users can receive SMS alerts when there are risky temperatures.
