30 / NOVEMBER.DECEMBER.2021 USICERINKS.COM In various "Skating Vault" episodes, Richard Dwyer discusses his career as "Mr. Debonair," Rhea Schwartz talks about her involvement in the adult skating commu- nity and Charlie Tickner reminisces on his four U.S. titles and Olympic bronze medal. While "Skating Vault" honors legendary names in U.S. figure skating history, "Voices From The Ice" focuses on the organization's current members and their skating journeys. Launched in September, "Voices From The Ice" is hosted by Jessica Lawrence, a New York skating mom and skater herself. She intro- duces various mem- bers who record their stories and conversa- tions. Listeners will hear inspiring stories from Get Up ambassadors as well as per- sonal experiences from skaters who competed at the Adult Championships, National Showcase, Excel Series and more. Both podcasts are available for listening on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. Virtual 5Ks While rinks remained closed or had limited ice time, U.S. Figure Skating and Learn to Skate USA ® took advantage of off-ice ideas to create virtual 5Ks. To celebrate five years of the Get Up movement in February, the Get Up Virtual 5K presented by Guaranteed Rate encouraged partici- pants to run, bike, walk or even skate their way to complete a 5K. Nearly 800 people nationwide signed up, printed their virtual 5K bib and submitted their completion form along with a photo to receive a Get Up 5K T-shirt, certificate and recognition on the finishers list. All net proceeds from the event benefitted the Memorial Fund. Going off the success of the Get Up Virtual 5K, Learn to Skate USA ® launched a similar event in the summer to celebrate its fifth birthday. The Learn to Skate USA ® 5th Birthday Virtual 5K also invited par- ticipants to run, skate, walk or bike a 5K. Individuals who completed the run received a commemorative medal. Anyone who com- pleted the 5K using the Learn to Skate USA ® app received a special pin.
