16 END OF YEAR REPORT 2018 Approved for distribution outside of the LoRa Alliance™ ROAMING LoRaWAN™ infrastructure provides a geolocation solution for LPWANs • Roaming simplifies the development of international use cases, such as a trucking company's logistics chain or a start-up selling products across borders • It can eliminate the need to develop variants of devices and applications for each IoT network and national markets, optimizing time to market and bringing economies of scale • The LoRaWAN™ Backend Interfaces Specification governs how LoRaWAN sensor data are passed between different networks to enable roaming - Has the ability to break down the network into network server (NS), join server (JS) and application server (AS). - Enables roaming for both LoRaWAN 1.0.x (passive roaming only) and LoRaWAN 1.1 networks (both passive and handover roaming). - Identifies the entity that stores end-device credentials (including root keys) as JS. It can be separated from networks and administered by an entity independent of the networks that the end-device may be using. This allows networks to offload the authentication procedure to a dedicated system, which can also be operated by a third party. This third-party JS also enables an end-device to be manufactured without having to be personalized for the networks it may eventually be connecting to. Objenious and Swisscom announced the availability of roaming service between their French and Swiss LoRaWAN ™ long-distance networks. Thanks to their national network coverage, Objenious and Swisscom will allow their customers to extend their uses across the border. – 24 January 2019
